Canadian athletes have won a record of 29 medals at the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea. Canada won 9 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 10 bronze medals.
Sport training and talent development experts believe that it takes a decade and a half to raise an olympian. Canada has been working hard to create a culture of sports success. For example, Canada’s”Own the Podium Campaign” has been working hard to support athletic performance.
“Own The Podium provides technical expertise to sport federations, summer and winter, Olympic and Paralympic. OTP makes funding recommendations, directing almost $70 million of government money annually to federations whose athletes show future medal potential.
The COC prepares athletes for the Games environment, looks after their needs on the ground at Games and pays for that via corporate sponsorship.
Canadian taxpayers are the largest investor in high-performance sport. The federal government spends roughly $200 million annually on it.”
The Paralympic Olympic games are scheduled to start on March 9 in Pyeongchange.
